We Support Caltech Startups

We believe that Caltech students are uniquely positioned to build great companies, and we want to help by providing support, guidance, and a strong network to make that possible. Built by Caltech alumni for Caltech students, we look to grow and nurture the entrepreneurial community and spirit at Caltech.

If you’re interested in building a company, join us to learn more.

Who should join?
Donut Labs focuses on nurturing entrepreneurial projects by Caltech undergraduate students. If you’re a Caltech undergrad looking to start your own company or already working on a project, we’d love to help!
If you’re a graduate student or an alumni and you feel like you could benefit from the Donut Labs community, get in touch!

If you’re an alumni founder, please join us! We’d love to help you, and would love to include you in our Caltech founder network.

How does Donut Labs help?
We’re committed to trying our best to find ways to help no matter your needs.  More specifically, we’ll help find problems to solve, find co-founders, find resources, help with fundraising, mentorship, networking, and everything else you need to start and grow your company.

What if I think I really want to work at <Insert 10k+ employee company>?
Nothing against the many incredible alumni working at large software, defense, consulting, or financial companies, but if slightly fewer undergrads went to these places and started companies instead, it would be an excellent overall trade. Maybe you’ll make the same choice after learning more, but it can only help to consider other options.

What if I’m building something other than a software company?
Please join!  We want people to work on many different kinds of challenging problems.  Many of the general issues new companies face are surprisingly similar.  However, if they’re different for you, we’ll work together to get you the help you need.

We will work with you at any stage.
Whether you’re a frosh and just curious about what we’re doing, an experienced entrepreneur, or somewhere in the vast space in the middle, we want to find ways to help you and bring you into the community.

We’re building a strong alumni network.
Caltech alumni have been eager to find ways to help, and we’re going to do our best to build a community of alumni from all years.  We’ve spoken with alumni across the generations, from the early 60s (and we’ll go back further if we can) through current students.

We believe Caltech students have enormous potential.
We want to help you be better entrepreneurs, which will primarily come from a long-term relationship and consistent interaction to help you achieve your goals.  We also understand that school is a priority for many of you, and you may need to take a break. That is fine.

Building for the long-term
While we will have “cohorts” and will bring in students after each recruiting cycle, we’ll work with people off-cycle and find ways to be inclusive for people who want to put in the work.
